The Blewett family owned Buena Vida Cattle Company has donated a Santa Gertrudis bull named Willy Wonka to Texas State's Freeman Ranch. He is the first of about twenty Santa Gertrudis cattle that will be coming to Freeman this spring to begin the introduction of Santa Gertrudis genetics into the Freeman herd.
Santa Gertrudis are a breed of cattle developed by the King Ranch here in Texas in the early 20th century. Typically red in color, they are the result of the crossing of Brahman bulls and shorthorn cows. They are generally the heaviest of the beef breeds (Britannica).
